Privacy policy
Last updated: 4 October 2026
Sow & Nurture is a UK registered charity (Charitable Incorporated Organisation, number 1204119). This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it and what your rights are. For the purposes of UK data protection law we are the data controller.
How to contact us
Email hello@sowandnurture.com or use our contact form. You can also write to us at our registered address, which is shown on the Charity Commission register of charities under charity number 1204119.
Information we collect
When you send us a form
If you submit a challenge, submit a solution, contact us or contact one of our projects, we collect the details you give us: your name, email address, your message and any optional details such as your organisation or location. We use them to read and respond to what you have sent and to follow up with you about it.
To protect the forms from spam and abuse we also store a scrambled, one-way fingerprint of the internet address your message came from. It cannot be turned back into your address and is not used to identify you.
When you follow a project
If you ask to follow a project by email, we store your email address against that project and use it only to send you that project's news and updates. We ask you to confirm the address first. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and we delete your address from that project when you use it.
When you donate
Donations are processed by Stripe, our payment provider. When you choose to donate you leave this website and give your payment details directly to Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe tells us the donor's name, email address, the amount and the date, so that we can record the gift and thank you. Stripe's own privacy policy explains how it handles your information.
When you browse the site
Our web server keeps standard technical logs (such as the pages requested, the time, and the internet address and browser type of the device) to keep the site secure and working.
If you agree to analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, for example which pages are visited and roughly where visitors are in the world. Google Analytics is switched off unless you choose "Accept analytics cookies". Our cookie policy has the details.
Why we are allowed to use your information
| What we do | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Read and respond to forms and messages | Legitimate interests: running the charity and answering people who contact us |
| Protect the site and forms from misuse | Legitimate interests: keeping the site secure |
| Record donations and keep financial records | Legal obligation and legitimate interests |
| Website analytics | Consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
Who we share information with
We do not sell personal information or pass it to others for their marketing. We share it only with organisations that help us run the charity and only as far as they need it:
- our website hosting and email providers, who store the site and deliver our email
- Stripe, for processing donations
- Google, for website analytics, if you have agreed to analytics cookies
- the people running a project, when you use that project's contact form
- regulators or authorities where the law requires it
Some of these providers may process information outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on the safeguards UK law requires, such as adequacy decisions or approved contract terms.
How long we keep information
- Forms and messages: up to two years after our last contact with you, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Donation records: at least six years, as required for financial and tax records.
- Analytics data: up to 14 months.
- Server logs: for a short period, normally no more than a few months.
Your rights
You have the right to ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent you can withdraw it at any time. To use any of these rights, contact us using the details in this policy. We will reply within one month and there is normally no charge.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
This website is intended for adults. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before sending us any personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
